The Transforming Education Summit is an Initiative of the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres to redefine global education and also seek world leaders commitment to the education 2030 agenda.
The summit is also expected to address global disruptions in Education and other challenges resulting from the Covid 19 outbreak. As expected, Nigeria and other nations will be participating in the summit to be held in September 2022.
As a build up to the new York summit, the federal government in partnership with the united Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) organised a first national consultation of the summit where a national statement was articulated. Welcoming participants at the second edition of the National Consultation on the TES meeting, the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission NUC Chris Maiyaki said it Seeks to broaden consultations and realign action’s ahead of the New York summit.
In his remarks, the UNESCO Regional Education Adviser, Mamadou Lamine Sow said the summit is coming at a time when more global commitment is required to transform education between now and 2030.
Presenting an overview on Transforming Education in Nigeria and beyond, the Permanent Secretary, Federal ministry of Education, Andrew Adejo who emphasized strong political will for Education by political actors, further highlighted measures deployed by the ministry to change the nations education landscape.
Other expected gains from the Consultation includes to identify the main strategic transformation for reimagining education for the 21st century and accelerating progress towards shared education goals among others.
