The newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, NIPC, Saratu Umar has expressed commitment to transform the Commission into a “gold standard of excellence on the African Continent and a world-class Investment Promotion Agency, that is comparable to any in the world”.

This she said will place Nigeria at a strategic position in the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement as the physical border is no longer a barrier.

The new NIPC boss who made this pledge in Abuja on the assumption of office, said “Anything short of a world-class Investment Promotion Agency is simply not acceptable.”

Addressing the staff, she said she was committed to excellence and professionalism, adding that as the gateway to the Nigerian economy for investors, NIPC would be a strong and role model public institution with a private sector orientation.

She said: “NIPC should be an African Industry Leader at the forefront of the investment ecosystem, and it should play a central role in our national development, as contemplated by its Act.

“Today, I still stand firm on this vision and I want to stress it with an even stronger voice.

“I reiterate that NIPC will be a strong public institution, with a private sector orientation that delivers effective and efficient services that exceed the expectations of all stakeholders in the investment ecosystem and indeed, in Nigeria.

“We are on the cusp of history, my dear colleagues, and Nigeria needs a NIPC that will maximally deliver on its mandate.

“Anything short of a world-class Investment Promotion Agency is simply not acceptable. We must keep this reality at the core of our focus, as we forge ahead.”

She, therefore, charged the management staff to lead by example, adding that “Sustainable success comes from intangibles like having an inspired group of committed people working together for a common cause.”

“We must set the example for others to follow. I expect all of us, and I mean all staff, to be ethical, committed, and above board.

“A TEAM is best defined as Together Employees Achieve Maximally. Therefore, I enjoin all of us to work together as a TEAM, to achieve the goals of NIPC, through individual excellence.

“We should not be working in competition with each other in a way that is destructive, instead, it should be healthy and encourage us to work in collaboration with each other.

“I will expect an attitude of doing what is right and doing the right things right. I will expect a paradigm shift in culture to what is obtainable in world-class institutions locally and internationally.

“We must be a highly professional and a high-performing public institution. I will expect results and expect that we give our jobs our best shots,” she said.

While pledging to create a harmonious work environment, that is firm but conducive and fair, she assured that the welfare of staff would be looked into, with a view to improving it.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had recently appointed Umar as the Executive Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer of NIPC, after she was relieved of the post by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
