The Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC)Prof Abubakar Rasheed has assured of ongoing efforts by the federal government to end the six months strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Prof Rasheed who gave the indication at the opening ceremony of the 2022 retreat for NUC management and vice chancellors of Nigerian Public Universities regretted the challenges that have characterized the nation’s ivory towers which he said the retreat is expected to tackle and chart a way forward.
He challenged the vice chancellors and other participants at the retreat to brainstorm and initiate measures that will restore lasting industrial stability in the universities.
The retreat, the NUC boss added is expected to address other issues of importance as it affects public universities and the call for a new curriculum Meanwhile, Education Minister, Adamu Adamu represented by the minister of state, Goodluck Nanah Opiah called on the vice-chancellors to join hands with the federal government to reposition the university system.
The retreat is expected to feature a wide range of issues relayed to challenges in the nation’s university system with recommendations to change the narratives.
