The Independent National Electoral Commission says 5 National Commissioners,12 Resident Electoral Commissioners have been deployed for the conduct of Saturday 16th July Osun State Governorship election. INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu stated this at the Osun State 2023 Governorship election stakeholders meeting in Osogbo,Osun state.
Recall the 2018 Governorship election in the state was declared inconclusive by INEC, it however vowed to change the narrative this time around. Prof Yakubu who restated the commitment of INEC as an unbiased umpire, said measures have been put in place to ensure the outcome of the election reflects the wishes of the electorate. The INEC boss who further highlighted steps taken by the commission to ensure people with disabilities participate in the election,also warned against vote buying.
Meanwhile,the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali in his remarks assured that over 21,000 personnel would be deployed to the state to ensure a peaceful Governorship election. On his part,the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi appealed to political actors in the state against vices that could undermine the integrity of the election.
The stakeholders meeting was attended by key political actors in the state including some of the Governorship candidates,their Representatives, civil society organisations, traditional rulers among others.
