The Defence headquarters says it has intensified efforts in the fight against terrorism, economic saboteurs, banditry and sundry crimes bedeviling the nation in order to ensure the safety of lives and property of Nigerians.
This is coming at a time the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji arrested a high profile Islamic State of West Africa Province Commander, Abba Yunus (aka Mallam Abba) and his accomplice as well as recovered arms and ammunitions at Samegu community in Kumbosto Local Government Area of Kano State.
Addressing a press briefing to update Nigerians on the strides recorded by the Armed Forces in diverse operations from June 2nd to 16, 2022, the Coordinator Defence Media Operations, Major General Bernard Onyeuko stated that the feat was achieved based on actionable intelligence report.
Gen Onyeuko also noted that about 47 terrorists including their top commanders were neutralized by troops of operation Hadin Kai during an encounter with the terrorists at their enclave in Gazuwa,Bama local Government Area of Borno state.
The feat achieved by troops of operation Dakatar Da Barawo against economic saboteurs and oil theft in the Niger Delta region that led to the discoveries of illegal refineries, reservoirs, stolen crude oil, arrest of about 141 among others also top the issues discussed at the briefing.
The Defence headquarters however disclosed that a total of 706 arms and ammunitions recovered from terrorists and other criminal elements have been handed over to the Zonal Coordinator North West Zone National Centre for Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons at 26 Battalion parade ground, Giginya Barracks Sokoto State.
