Ahead of the deadline for submission of names of Vice Presidential Candidates by the various political parties, the issue of same religion ticket has continued to attract diverse reactions from across the divide.
While the arrangement was not deemed necessary in 1993 when Nigerians massively voted for a Muslim- Muslim ticket which was later truncated by the then Military regime, the situation this time around is different as it has been subjected to discuss by relevant stakeholders including religious,socio cultural organizations among others.
Some Nigerians who spoke with Channel Network Afrique expressed caution over the debate, saying what is needed for a nation like Nigeria with enormous challenges is competence. As expected,others in their submission argued on the place of equity, fairness and justice to peaceful coexistence in Nigeria They all however agreed that irrespective of the divide, well coordinated issue driven campaigns by the parties should also be considered as key factor to elect Nigeria’s next president.
The various political parties have till 6pm Friday 17 June as deadline to submit the names of their vice presidential candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
