The National Universities Commission NUC has restated it’s unwavering commitment to drive the Open Education Resources Initiative in efforts to enhance the quality and quantity of academic contents to learners at little or no cost.
NUC Executive Secretary,Prof Adamu Rasheed gave the indication at a high level sensitisation workshop in Abuja on mainstreaming OER in Higher Education in Nigeria.
Represented by his deputy, Chris Maiyaki, the NUC boss who indicated various efforts by the Commission to fully integrate and adopt OER in the various Tertiary Education system, said it established the National university System Open Education Resources Repository to serve as gateway to open resources in 153 Universities since 2017.
He said the workshop presents opportunity to build capacity towards the implementation of the national OER Policy for higher education in Nigeria. The NUC boss also stated how the initiative when fully implemented will drive the effective implementation of its recently adopted new curriculum for the nations university System.
The workshop was attended by key stakeholders in the higher education system who in their remarks applauded the relevance of the OER Policy. It is expected that the workshop will provide opportunity for sustainable integration of OER into the nations higher education practices, thereby contributing to knowledge creation and improving the quality of graduates from the system.
