Before the establishment of the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control in 1993, Nigeria was a dumping ground for fake drugs and unwholesome products. The implication was so severe that neighbouring countries like Ghana and Sierra Leone banned the importation and sale of drugs, Food and beverages made in Nigeria. 25 years after the enactment of the Nafdac act, the situation has changed for the better.
