June 12: ECOWAS Parliament To Suspend Sitting In Commemoration Of Nigeria’s Democracy Day
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) parliament will suspend sitting on June 12 in solidarity with Nigeria to commemorate its democratic day.
The Deputy Speak of the parliament who also serve same role in the Federal House of Representatives in Nigeria, Ahmed Idris Wase made the announcement while presiding at the ongoing 2022 first ordinary session in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
He said Nigeria’s Democracy which was previously celebrated on May 29 annually until President, Muhammadu Buhari moved it in 2018 to June 12 to honour the sacrifice of the winner of 1993 world acclaimed fairest Presidential Election, Moshood Abiola.
The Parliament however, wish the President and the good people of Nigeria a happy democracy day celebration.
Sitting for the ongoing first ordinary session of the ECOWAS parliament resumes on Tuesday, June 14 with a presentation from the President of the ECOWAS Commission Jean-Claude Kassi Brou.
