Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is soliciting the support of the Nigerian Air Force in deployment of Electoral Materials and other logistics. INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu gave the indication at a courtesy call on the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao at the Nigerian Air Force headquarters in Abuja.
The INEC boss who noted that the general elections is barely 261 days away said the commission alone cannot implement the requirements of ensuring a seamless electoral process, hence the need for collaboration with the Naval authorities.
Like Oliver Twist, Prof Yakubu also extended the coverage of the cooperation with the Air force to the Ekiti and Osun Governorship election especially in the area of deployment of outstanding election materials. Responding, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao assured of the nations air force support to ensure INEC delivers on its mandate.
Other takeaways from the visit include the reassurance by the nations electoral body to work with all key stakeholders including political parties, observers and the media to ensure a seamless movement of electoral materials to various locations.
