World Consumer Rights Day is a day set aside to raise global awareness on consumer rights and needs. Commemorating the international day provides the opportunity to demand that rights of consumers are respected and protected as well as protest against market abuses and social injustices that undermine those rights. Joining the rest of the world to celebrate this day, the Nigerian Government seized the opportunity to step up its campaign against the sales and production of fake and substandard smart mobile phones in the country. The Director General, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Babatunde Irukera expressed concern over high level of sharp practices by some dealers of smart products. He said the Commission will increase its market sensitization to shun illegal practices and corrupt practices that are capable in affecting the nation’s economy adversely.
