As part of lined up activities to commemorate the 2024 World AIDS day on December 1, officials of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) were at Friday’s Jumaat prayer at the National Mosque to sensitize the Muslim community on the significance of the day.
This is as statistics have shown that about 1.9 million Nigerians are currently living with HIV/AIDS. Speaking with newsmen on the significance of the campaign, representative of the NACA DG, Maryam Sani, said it is part efforts by the agency to ensure more Nigerians get tested to know the job status.
She said the theme of this year’s edition of the world AIDS day “Take the Rights Path: Sustain HIV Response, Stop HIV among Children to End AIDS in Nigeria by 2030,” aligns with NACA’s goal of ensuring a healthier future for all Nigerians.
Commending NACA for the initiative, Babatunde Lawal urged the Muslim ummah and Nigerians to take advantage of the various health facilities across the country to test and know their HIV status.
The world AIDS day is commemorated every December 1 to show support for those living with HIV,tackle stigma and remember those who have died from HIV related illnesses.
