The Defence headquarters has expressed its readiness to deal with threats against the peaceful conduct of next month’s general election.
The Director, Defence Media Operation, Major General Musa Danmadami gave the assurance at a press briefing in Abuja to update Nigerians on the strides recorded by Armed Forces in diverse operations from 12 – 26 January 2023.
Gen Danmadami who stated that the military have been briefed on the code of conduct and the rules of engagement on election coverage assured that the Armed Forces will continue to work with other security agencies to ensure a seamless electoral process.
On the achievements of troops in the fight against terrorism, Gen Danmadami said 42 terrorist were neutralise,with 26 accomplices arrested and large cache of arms and ammunitions recovered by troops in the North East.
He further indicated how troops in conjunction with other security agents in the South East Zonearrested a high profile sponsor of Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network.
Activities of troops in clamping down economic saboteurs,oil theft and vandals in the south was also captured in the briefing as the defense spokesman said 39 illegal refining sites, 48 cooking ovens, 103 storage tanks, 27 dugout pits and 33 wooden boats were discovered and destroyed in the South South zone.
