2023 General Election: INEC Begins Postmortem Review, Set To Prosecute Offenders

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun a postmortem review on what transpired during the 2023 general elections, confirming that the Nigerian Police has submitted the case file of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Adamawa State after investigation.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this at a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja.

Yakubu who revealed that appropriate action will soon be taken on those that committed electoral infractions during the election including top officials of the commission further indicated that the electoral body intentionally refrained from making commentary since after the election.

Despite the challenges that threatened the success of the 2023 general elections, INEC commended itself saying that Its records show that the success rate for Bimodal Voter Accreditation System BVAS during the exercise stands at 98% compared to the Smart Card Reader’s 29.2% during the 2019 General Election.

Other achievements recorded by the commission, Yakubu maintained that 10th National Assembly is the most diverse in party representation since 1999 noting that five political parties produced State Governors, seven parties won Senatorial seats, eight represented in the House of Representatives and nine in State Houses of Assembly.
