18 Nigerian Researchers Unveil Market-Ready Innovations.
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting research that addresses real-world challenges, creates jobs, and positions Nigeria on the global innovation map.
TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, made this known at the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) Demo Day and Closing Ceremony held in Abuja.
The SGCI is a multi-donor programme that strengthens the capacity of science funding agencies in 17 African countries.
Echono commended the 18 researchers from Nigerian tertiary institutions involved in the initiative for developing homegrown, market-ready prototypes with strong commercial potential.
Echono further noted that the projects reflect the success of TETFund’s Research for Impact initiative, highlighting their relevance in addressing both national and global development goals across various sectors.
In his remarks, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani represented by Francis Sani praised TETFund’s efforts, noting that the initiative aligns with the Ministry’s
3 Million Technical talent programme that aims to build an AI-ready workforce and create 500,000 jobs through digital outsourcing hubs.
The SGCI project is implemented by TETFund in collaboration with Kenya’s African Centre for Technology Studies and Nigeria’s Innov8 Hub. The initiative is designed to transform promising research into market-ready products within a 12-month development cycle.
