Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, who stated in an official statement made available to Channel Network Afrique, CNA indicates that the collision was triggered when the driver of the coal truck, traveling at excessive speeds, lost control of the vehicle. The truck subsequently crashed into several parked vehicles, initiating a chain reaction.

Reacting to the tragedy, FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed offered condolences to the bereaved families but described the incident as a “tragic and avoidable” consequence of reckless driving.
